How Much Does it Cost to Remodel a Kitchen?

You no longer like the look of your kitchen and are considering a complete remodel. But you’re hesitant because you have no idea how much it’ll cost. Furthermore, you don’t want to start and then realise halfway through that it was more expensive than you anticipated. One way to avoid this is to remodel gradually, fixing the space one area at a time.

However, a gradual renovation isn’t a viable option for everyone. As a result, in this post, we’ll provide a guide on how much you can expect to spend while remodelling your kitchen. To make this relevant to a majority, we’ll be providing a range of values – so, everyone can decide which end of the figures works for them.

Here we go:

Will you replace cabinets and countertops?

No kitchen remodel is complete without replacing the cabinets or the countertops. Between them, these two occupy the second largest space in the room, and it’s hard to give your kitchen a new look without at least doing some work on them. Given their importance, it’s not surprising that getting a new cabinet and countertop is not cheap at all. Depending on the size of your kitchen and the quality of material you want to use, you may be looking at an expense between €1,500 to €5,000 for both.

Will you install a new backsplash?

Even if your current backsplash is still serviceable, this is one of the features you should prioritise when remodelling. Why? Because it lets you get a quick win. Without spending a lot of money, a new backsplash will have your kitchen looking different in no time at all. Expect costs in the €500 – €1,000 range for this.

Will you need new appliances?

If you’re changing appliances during a kitchen renovation, then you’re obviously going all out. A new refrigerator unit, microwave, and oven will set you back some. That’s thousands of euros for sure. But of course, it’s going to be worth it, now and in the long run. New kitchen appliances increase the value of your home, and if you plan to sublet the place at any point, you’ll be looking at really nice rent payments.

Will you replace the kitchen flooring?

Why not? The floor takes up the most space in your kitchen, and just like the backsplash, it gives you an easy win. Replacing your flooring will cost you more money, though. There are a number of options to consider – from hardwood flooring to ceramic tiles and concrete. However, if you’re looking for good value at an affordable price, consider luxury vinyl flooring. They allow you to mimic the look of genuine wood and stone, but at a fraction of the cost and with less maintenance needs.
